A Cottage holiday is not just for the affluent

On the train home last week I sat next to some young girls, one of whom was telling her friend how she loves English Country Cottages and would love to holiday in one but was so sure she would never get one because of the costs involved. Her friend, who seemed to agree, explained that such a holiday entailed eating out daily and because the cottages were all luxuriously furnished, only the rich could afford them. At this point I was forced to interrupt and explain to them that these holidays were really affordable and, for the self-catering, did not actually necessitate eating out.
